Castle Baron (Henry) was purchased in 1999 as a 2 year old from his breeder Henry O'Toole of Clifden and stands at stud at Glenormiston. He is a stunning pony with a blue blooded pedigree carrying the famous Village lines on his dam's side. His two full sisters Castle Countess and Castle Urchin were Supreme Champion and Reserve respectively at Clifden Ireland in 2001. Castle Urchin was Supreme Champion in 2002 and yet again in 2007.

His full brother Castle Comet is hugely successful in England and was Supreme Champion at the English Breed Show in 2000 and Ridden Champion a year later as well as becoming the first Connemara pony to win Champion of Champions (against all comers) at the Horse of the Year Show in Britain. In 2004 he won the double awards at the Horse of the Year Show and Olympia - a first for any Connemara Pony. Both parents of these 4 famous siblings, Abbeyleix Owen and Castle Dame were Clifden winners.  This is truly a remarkable family.

Henry and John Downes                       Henry and Sue

Castle Baron was the  Supreme All Breeds Champion Pony of the Show at the biggest pony show in Queensland -  the Stud Pony Show - in 2003 and 2004 . He has won Supreme All Breeds Stallion of the same show for 4 years in a row.  He has been awarded many Supreme Championships in both Connemara classes and against all pony breeds in Australia since his arrival in Australia as a 2 year old . Sadly he isn't ridden much because of lack of riders (our children have all grown up and live away from here and we live in too remote a location to 'borrow' riders . Henry hasn't competed under saddle like our previous stallions but we enjoy riding him at home on the farm . He is one of the quietest and most sensible ponies we have ever owned.

Henry is a quality pony yet is extremely typical with wonderful bone and a super temperament. He is one of the loveliest ponies we have come across in our travels in Europe and we wereextremely lucky to have been able to purchase him.  His foals are proving to be just as attractive and typey  as their sire and inherit his wonderful laid back temperament. With his colour and bloodlines, he suits every mare and filly at Glenormiston and in Australia.   He is a huge asset to our breeding programme at Glenormiston and is the only descendant of Abbeyleix Owen in Australia.

Prince is by the wonderful performance stallion Domo Cavallo Praize and passed inspection in 2008 with excellent marks.  Prince is now in his new home in Victoria and we are confident he has a wonderful career ahead of him

He and his three year old full brother, Glenormiston Celtic Pride, are the only class 1 entire sons of Praize remaining in Australia and both are out of an Abbeyleix Finbar mare giving them blue line stallions on both sides of their pedigree. Unfortunately they are both too related to most of our brood mares so Prince was sold and Pride who is going kindly under saddle is being offered for sale as he is now inspected and passed. Photos of Pride are on our for sale page or click here for photos

This lovely colt was bred in Denmark by Gunner and Anne Harder Andersen and we were very fortunate to be able to purchase him in 2008 as a future sire for the  Glenormiston mares. His dam died in 2009 at the age of 25 so Cavalier is her last foal.

He is the first Hazy Dawn son to be available in Australia and will be inspected in 2010.

OUR THREE FOUNDATION STALLIONS

Grey (born dun) 14.1 1/2 hands.

Domo Cavallo Praize (Connemara Park Peter - Kirtling Haze [imp] was one of the most successful Connemara ponies in Australia, never being beaten at a Royal Show ( Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane ), Supreme Champion Connemara at 11 of 13 Stud Pony shows, with dozens of championships and supreme championships from agricultural shows. Praize evented in open competition, being unplaced only once over a 10 year EFA eventing career. He competed successfully in harness and in EFA showjumping and dressage competitions - against horses of all heights - as well as winning the overall championship under saddle for all breeds at the Stud Pony Show in Queensland. He carried two of our children to success in interschool competitions back when junior riders were allowed to ride stallions. With his impeccable  temperament and amazing ability, he became a legend in Queensland and indeed in Australia

His progeny have been highly successful in the performance field as well as in hand.  Sadly Praize died in June 2006 at the age of almost 31. He is sorely missed at Glenormiston as he had been part of our family for over 30 years - he joined us when he was 8 months old.  He has left us two  beautiful sons Glenormiston Celtic Prince and Glenormiston Celtic Pride from the 2005/2006 seasons to carry on his legacy.  We have retained a number of his daughters and grand-daughters at Glenormiston as broodmares.

Grey (born black) 13.2 1/2 hands

In 1979, the  yearling colt Abbeyleix Finbar (Ballydonagh Rob - Finola of Leam) was purchased in Ireland from Padraic Hynes of Ballinafad who had bought Finbar as a weanling. He was bred by the late Viscountess de Vesci at Abbeyleix and we are proud to have owned one of her beautiful ponies.  Finbar is a three-quarter brother of Coosheen Finn and Leam Bobby Finn and like his illustrious brothers he has bred on with great success producing many fine ponies.

Finbar followed on from Praize in the show ring, winning innumerable championships and supreme championships as well as competing with great success in harness and pony jumping.  Like our other stallions, his progeny have it all  -  temperament, type, correct conformation, ability and movement. He has a number of successful stallion sons in Australia, USA and New Zealand and is the sire of many of our best broodmares at Glenormiston.  Sadly Finbar died in March 2006 at the grand age of 28. We miss him and his cheery call at feed time.

We were very privileged to have owned this wonderful dun stallion until  September 2000 when he died very suddenly at the age of 24 .He was bred by Bent and Kitte Nielsen in Denmark and purchased by us after the Roskilde festival of '81 where he was Reserve Champion stallion to Rory Ruadh. Gideon was a true gentleman as well as being one of the most wonderful and typical representatives of the breed ever imported into Australia. He has left several stallion sons in this country and we are lucky to have retained some of his daughters and grand-daughters. Gideon was one of the few ponies that we could totally trust with any rider including young children. He was amazingly capable and won the showjumping competition for local horses and ponies at Brookfield Show every year he competed beating many top showjumpers. Everyone at Glenormiston misses him greatly. He has left a legacy of good ponies in Australia, the USA and Denmark.

The original broodmares at the Glenormiston Stud were carefully selected over a number of years from around the world. In recent years a number of quality fillies have been retained by the stud to carry on these important bloodlines. These mares and fillies were chosen for their temperament, conformation, type movement and ability.  Only one of our original imports, Oxenholm Tiffany (29 years), is still with us but our current broodmares are almost all descended from the select band of imported mares owned by Glenormiston in the 1970's and 80's. Every mare has one or more of our own stallions in her pedigree. There are currently more than 20 pure Connemara broodmares and potential broodmares at Glenormiston with approximately 10-15 foals being produced each year. ALL our mares have passed inspection and are in class 1 of the CPBSA studbook             See our Broodmare page

We have leased two of our young mares, Glenormiston Lisheen and Glenormiston Flashy Diamond,  to the Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga, NSW for two years to assist with setting up their Connemara breeding project. They are both now in foal to Wychwood Willie Wagtail. The UniversityGl Flashy Diamond on L and Gl Lisheen on R has set up a liaison with the CPBSA.

Glenormiston Flashy Diamond had a filly foal in October but Lisheen slipped sometime during the year. Both mares are now back in foal to Wychwood Willie Wagtail and will be due back at Glenormiston in mid 2011

Gl Killian Gl Fintra and Indi Gl Katie Corkery & Sarah our four in Hand Indi & Gl Dunmurry 2006

The Glenormiston purebred ponies have been a huge success story with our ponies winning in all spheres of equestrian activity throughout Australia and abroad. Many have represented their state in dressage, eventing and showjumping and many are winners in hacking, harness and in-hand classes all over this country and abroad. It gives us great pleasure to see our ponies doing well for their new owners.
